PLANT REFUGEES
02/2023

EXPERIMENTAL BOOKS

The gradual relegation of plants to 'refugee' status will change the composition of forest communities and affect entire ecosystems, ultimately leading to species extinction, severe ecological crises and the emergence of deadly diseases.

I extracted the vegetation species defined as plant refugees based on preliminary research, and adjusted the overall visual to a faded, layered ambiguity based on the changing distribution and current images of the species under the influence.

INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION

When the distance sensor connected to the installation senses the presence of people, the pump valve opens and the external water
enters the internal container, the pollutants at the bottom will gradually contaminate the entire water circulation system, signifying that the impact of environmental damage is holistic.

ECO-FRIENDLY FIBRE PAPER
The choice of material was made from a light white eco-friendly fibre paper, smooth on one side and relatively rough on the other, creating a subtle sense of dialogue inherent in the material. As natural time passes, the paper also symbolises the fading of vegetation.

TRANSPARENT OVERLA
The book is designed as a loose leaf, with different sized pages to represent the different but equally migratory situation of the plant refugees.
INTERACTIVE INSTALLATIONThe device consists of a pump interaction valve and a water circulation container.

When the distance sensor connected to the installation senses the presence of people, the pump valve opens and the external water enters the internal container, the pollutants at the bottom will gradually contaminate the entire water circulation system, signifying that the impact of environmental damage is holistic.
SURVIVAL SPACE IS SQUEEZED The internal water surface pushes the floating plate up and the living space where the data model of vegetation changes is squeezed, where the complete compression of the vegetation space will affect the entire ecological environment.
